Assembly Technician

Position Summary
The Electronics Assembler is responsible for assembling electronic components, subassemblies, and finished products according to work instructions, drawings, and quality standards. This role requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, the ability to perform tedious and repetitive bench work, and to follow a standardized process to ensure high-quality builds. You must have good organizational skills and be supportive of a team atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
Assembly and Production
- Assemble electronic components, wiring, cables, and subassemblies using hand tools and basic power tools.
- Perform through-hole and surface-mount component preparation, insertion, and placement (hand placement and machine preparation).
- Solder components to printed circuit boards (PCBs) following IPC standards and company guidelines.
- Install hardware such as screws, connectors, and brackets. Assemble box builds and final assembly products.
- Will learn how to perform complex rework/repair and machine processes using microscopes and magnification.
Inspection
- Read and interpret process documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and work instructions.
- Perform in-process visual inspection of assemblies for workmanship and accuracy to ensure compliance to IPC-A-610.
- Identify and report defects, missing components, or documentation discrepancies.
- Maintain traceability and complete required production documentation.
- Ensure ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) controls are followed at all times.
Production Support and Additional
- Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S practices preferred).
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Follow all safety policies.
- Training and additional certifications for successful candidates.
Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or GED. Ability to read assembly drawings, small part markings, and follow detailed work instructions. Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and handle small components. Preferred IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification. Experience in EMS manufacturing environment. Familiarity with ESD-safe handling practices. Basic computer skills for production tracking systems.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing/production floor.
- Use of ESD protection (smocks, wrist straps, mats).
- Work with small components and magnification tools.
- May require lifting up to 25 lbs.
